Writers grow in community. Suzanne will get to know you and your work.
Ultimately, it is up to the writer to provide publishers with excellent copy in order to avoid after publishing remorse. Let Suzanne give you an objective opinion.
Suzanne has worked with AP, MLA, APA, Chicago, Gregg, in-house style sheets and will respect an author's stylistic choices, while unifying the presentation.
This service is for the book-in-the-making set. Whether you are literally self-publishing a book, submitting final drafts to publishers, or just getting the first chapters of a book on paper. Substantive editing considers all aspects of a work, from the linear thread to sentence construction. The project will be returned with tracked changes and stylistic questions to consider. As this type of editing constitutes a dialogue between Suzanne and the author, it may require additional passes through the work. Estimates are for the first pass through the work only.
Suzanne used to be of the opinion that poetry could not be edited. However, if you are working with an editor who "gets you" or is willing to take the time to ask questions and make suggestions to help clarify your purpose, then poetry can be edited with great success.
Suzanne will review your book and provide copy suitable for posting.
Suzanne will offer feedback on works in progress in order to assist the development of a project.
Suzanne Rae Deshchidn made a tremendous contribution to my book, Not a Safe God (Broadman & Holman, 2006). When I submitted the manuscript after Suzanne’s editing, the publisher skipped the line editing stage: the work was that clean.
But more than line editing, Suzanne’s greatest skill lay in substantive editing. She continually pushed me to be more transparent, to communicate my story of how God had not always been safe, even as he was good. Suzanne sees the implications of particular points, where the support may be weak, where a section may lack clarity or be too wordy.
She has made me a better writer, and I highly recommend her to you.
